RESEARCH

My research areas diverse and include: (i) wood degradation by fungi and termites, (ii) protection of solid wood and wood-based materials against degradation, (iii) wood preservation, (iv) development of new wood preservatives, (v) environmental impact of treated wood usage, (vi) remediation of treated wood by biological and chemical methods, (vii) leaching and fixation issues of water-borne wood preservatives, (viii) wood modification by heat treatments and their effect on wood durability and preservative leaching, (ix) the role of various silicone compounds and polymer systems on protection of wood and limiting preservative release, (x) several issues on boron-based wood preservatives i.e. leaching, fixation and biodegradation. The common thread among my research lines is environmental issues. Most of my projects involve the collection of data from laboratory.
